Alison

Having graduated from Durham University with a Psychology degree, Alison spent the next 15 years serving in the Metropolitan Police. Part of her role involved working in local schools. When she had children of her own, she volunteered at her children’s school, something she found incredibly rewarding. A relocation to Yorkshire enabled her to change career paths, and after working as a teaching assistant in Primary and Secondary settings, she qualified as a teacher in 2014. Since then, she has worked in a range of primary schools, urban and rural, across all year groups, as a class teacher and intervention tutor: specifically in English and Maths.
Having worked with smaller groups in school, Alison knows the difference that can be made by focusing on specific areas in which individual children need support.
She continues to work as a classroom teacher in a part-time capacity, giving her time to tutor children in their homes, enabling them to access all that school has to offer, build their confidence and achieve their potential.
Alison is familiar with the phonics schemes Little Wandle and Read, Write inc. as well as White Rose Maths and Pie Corbett’s “Talk for writing”. She particularly likes embedding learning through practical activities and collaborative games.
Alison has English Literature, German and Biology A levels, and has led Modern Foreign Languages, Religious Education and Science in the schools that she has taught in.
