Lesley

Lesley qualified as a secondary school teacher of English in 2004 and went on to teach for
thirteen years in two schools in North Yorkshire. She has extensive experience teaching
students across the ability range from KS3 to GCSE level. Lesley has experience of a range
of exam specifications; however, recent teaching has been to the AQA and Cambridge
iGCSE syllabi.

Working in a school with specialist provision for young people with Autism meant that Lesley
gained further experience teaching young people with very specific learning needs. She has
also worked in a teaching assistant role, giving her opportunities to utilise her teaching skills
to make learning across a range of subjects accessible to different learners.
In addition to teaching within the classroom, Lesley has also tutored students in one-to-one
and small groups. She feels that the demands of the English subject curriculum can be
intimidating for learners; focused support can provide an opportunity for young people to
build their confidence and take risks with their learning. Tutoring helps tease out the
knowledge and skills that individuals sometimes don’t realise they have.

Lesley is a wonderful addition to the Leap in2 Learning team.
